The ILS (Indian Law Society) Centre for Arbitration and Mediation organised a Arbitration Week at ALS Law College, Pune, during 15-18 Frbruary 2019.
Dr J D Bapat attended and participated in proceedings.
The National Arbitration Conference was organised on the second day, i.e. on 16 February. The conference sessions and the resource persons were as follows:
Session 1: Institutional Arbitration
Resource persons: Ajay Thomas (Vice Chair of the ICC, India Arbitration Group), Manoj Kumar (Founder and Managing Partner, Hammurabi & Solomon), Arjun Doshi (Associate, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas)
Session 2: Investment Treaty Arbitration
Resource Persons: Prabhash Ranjan (Associate Professor at South Asian University), Rishabh Malviya (Associate, Arista Chambers), Harshad Pathak (Senior Associate, P&A Law Offices)
Session 3: Arbitration in Construction Industry
Resource Persons: Raj Panchmatia (Partner, Khaitan & Co), Adith Narayan (Advocate, AK Law Chambers), Ratan Singh (FCIArb, Founder Chambers of Ratan Singh)
Session 4: Mediation - Arbitration (Med-Arb)
Resource Persons: Gracious Timothy (JAMS Scholar, LLM International Commercial Arbitration), Rahul Kothari (Co-Founder, Squarely Legal), Aman Hingorani (Advocate, Supreme Court of India)
Session 5: Maritime Arbitration

On the third day, i.e. on 17 February 2019, "Arbitration Training Program" was organised, covering the following:
(i) Writing of Arbitration Clause
(ii) Drafting of Pleadings, which included submissions and drafting of submissions, reply and general format of replies, Evidence affidavit before an arbitrator, cross and chief questions and their format, expert testimony and arbitration, interim award
(iii) Drafting an Arbitral award
On the last day, i.e. on 18 February 2019, "National Arbitration Award Writing Competition" was organised. In the first of the day, practical simulation of mock arbitration session was conducted. The competition was conducted in the second half of the day. A problem related to the construction industry was given to write the arbitral award.
